Class Evaluation

Class Evaluation

Things I liked about Exploring Computer Science Class is having 5 minutes to write in our journal everyday. This let me know the goals I wanted to accomplish at a specific time and the goals I have achieved. Another thing I liked about the class was that there were no test testing our knowledge. Tests make me nervous and I always end up doing bad, I like that we were able to learn at our own speed about coding and not have to worry about a upcoming test.

Things I didn't like about this class is having to write reflections down everyday about a new quality or something else. I did enjoy learning about something new that will help me improve my skills and do better in life. I just didn't enjoy having to write long paragraphs because sometimes I didn't know what to write and it made the paragraphs really short.

Recommendations for improving the class are to let students have more free time. Sometimes we really want to finish other assignments and we need computers. Having more free time open more opportunities to finish the assignments we need. I understand this is exploring computer science class and we have work to be done but once in a while would be nice.

I read  my life planning goals journal as often as I could. Somedays I have a lot of things in my mind and it might slip but I do try and read them as much as I could.

I'm committed to being a CTR person. I am because I want to succeed in life and choosing the right helps with that. For instance, I choose the right by doing my homework and in return I get good grades.

I learned from this class many things but what I'll pass on is being a CTR person all the time. I'll tell others to avoid temptations and it will help them in the long run.

I'll remember from this class CTR(choose the right). I also remember below the line and above the line. I'll always have to be above the line.

The Psychology of Winning: 10 Qualities of a Total Winner

The Psychology of Winning

Denis Waitley

The 10 Qualities of a Total Winner

Quality 1:  Positive Self-Expectancy
"Life is a self fulfilling prophecy. True winners go into every event expecting to win."

When you give yourself a positive self-expectancy means that you only expect the positive outcomes. These expectancy is one way to psychologically motivate yourself because if you keep telling yourself that you can do it then you'll believe in yourself more.

Quality 2: Positive Self-Motivation
"True winners dig deep and find motivation inside themselves to get through that tough task or to learn a new skill."

Self Motivation ability to do what needs to be done, without influence from other people or situations. People with self motivation can find a reason and strength to complete a task, even when challenging, without giving up or needing another to encourage them. For instance, if you are trying out for a sport you don't need other people telling you you're good and you just need to try harder you have to do that yourself. Self Motivation isn't being cocky it just means you believe in your abilities but aren't bragging about it.
Quality 3: Positive Self-Image

True winners are confident and view themselves as competent, valuable human beings.
Self-image is how you perceive yourself. ... Conversely, others who have had a very difficult life and multiple hardships may also have a very positive self-image. Some believe that a person's self-image is defined by events that affect him or her. Positive self-image also means no one else can bring you down.

Quality 4Positive Self-Direction
You gotta have direction if you are going to go anywhere. True winners know where they are going. Their sense of direction comes from the self and not from outside influences like parents or friends.

Self-direction you choose your services, the staff and organizations that provide them, and a schedule that works best for you. Each person is unique. Self-direction empowers people to design supports based on their unique strengths and needs. It gives you more control over the funding used to buy your services.

Quality 5: Positive Self-Control
Total winners can sacrifice immediate pleasure for a gain in the future. Delayed gratification is of immense value in reaching your goals.

Self-control, an aspect of inhibitory control, is the ability to regulate one's emotions, thoughts, and behavior in the face of temptations and impulses. A related concept in psychology is emotional self-regulation. Self-control is like a muscle. Self control means to have the ability to regulate one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors when one faces a complication. But in this case those who want to be successful will sacrifice immediate pleasure for a gain in the future. An example of people using self control is when you encounter a difficult problem on a test, at work or just on your home as well.

Quality 6: Positive Self-Discipline

You have to discipline yourself or else someone else will discipline you into doing what they want you to do. Total winners have the power to discipline and take control of their lives.

Self discipline means self control, which is a sign of inner strength and control of yourself, your actions, and your reactions. Self discipline gives you the power to stick to your decisions and follow them through, without changing your mind, and is therefore, one of the important requirements for achieving goals. The most successful people in life exert discipline on a daily basis. It is vital to every living being and without it, the world around us would be chaos. Discipline brings stability and structure into a person's life. It teaches a person to be responsible and respectful.

Quality 7: Positive Self-Esteem

Your mood and outlook on life affect the way you see the world and how you interact in it. Total winners are positive, powerful people who make people feel good and provide a good vibe to those around him/her.

Self-esteem is shaped by your thoughts, relationships and experiences.Self-esteem is your overall opinion of yourself how you feel about your abilities and limitations. When you have healthy self-esteem, you feel good about yourself and see yourself as deserving the respect of others. The benefits of a healthy self-esteem are many. Children who have high self-esteem come to value themselves and think of themselves as worthy partners and capable problem solvers. They develop a healthy balance of liking who they are, but also recognizing that there are ways they can continue to grow and to develop.

Quality 8: Positive Self-Dimension
Total winners like in the present. They know that now is all there is. They don’t get caught up in the past or worry about the future. They simply handle the business that they can handle which is the stuff going on today, now.

Winning means extending a strong hand to one who is reaching or groping or, just hanging on.Winners know there will be no lasting piece of bread every month. Self-dimension starts with the inner circle-the family. Winners live well-rounded lives. They spend time developing their most important relationships. Acquiring self-dimension requires looking beyond yourself for meaning in life. A winner puts it all together. He or she is a total person, which is a rare human being indeed.

Quality 9: Positive Self-Awareness
Total winners are aware of their power. They understand that they can be anything with enough effort and determination.

Self Awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions. Self Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment.Self awareness is important because when we have a better understanding of ourselves, we are able to experience ourselves as unique and separate individuals. We are then empowered to make changes and to build on our areas of strength as well as identify areas where we would like to make improvements.

Quality 10: Positive Action
Total winners take positive action in their business and with their friends and family. They are uplifting and motivating individuals who inspire the best from themselves and other
Positive Action  is the policy of protecting members of groups that are known to have previously suffered from discrimination. Historically and internationally, support for affirmative action has sought to achieve goals such as bridging inequalities in employment and pay, increasing access to education, promoting diversity, and redressing apparent past wrongs, harms, or hindrances.

Pyramid of Success

The Pyramid of Success
John Wooden
25 blocks
Block 1: Industriousness
"There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning."
Image result for what does industriousness mean
Industriousness mean actively engaged or occupied, busy chiefly stresses activity as opposed to idleness or leisure. "...Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning." is a great way to start if you want success because lazy people leave everything to the last minute. Most of the time the projects feel rushed and no good. For instance, teachers are grading bases on your effort. If you work hard then you'll get good grades. Having a careful plan for a project means it'll come out good and you won't be stressing because you don't know what to do. As for in a job your boss expects you to do good work. That is the only way to get a raise because a job doesn't want people who give them semigood work.

Block 2Enthusiasm

Image result for enthusiasm"It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins."
Enthusiasm intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval. If you don't have enthusiasm then you won't want to put as much effort as you would if you liked what you were doing. For instance if you like to do art but you're stuck in a business that you don't even like you'll never do good at your actual job. You'll hate going to work everyday it wouldn't be something you want it would be something you are forced to do. If you enjoy something then go for it, it is the start of success. Enthusiasm is the cornerstone because it is what will keep you motivated and want you to succeed.

Block 3Friendship

"Comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."

Image result for friendshipFriendship helps with success because you have to surround yourself with people who will believe and motivate you. Some friendships in your life can bring you down. For example, having a friend who never supports your ideas and tells you they're no good isn't someone you want to have around. You should have people around you who support you.

Block 4: Loyalty
"To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."

Loyalty important to because it makes you dependable. As friendship was our last block, loyalty comes with friendship.  If you're aren't loyal to your friends they won't trust you.

Block 5: Cooperation

Image result for cooperation"With all levels of your co-workers. Listen if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way. "

If you're working in a business area which has to involve you cooperating with others than you have to try your best to get along with them. If you want their respect then respect them and hear them out. Two heads are better than one. Also try your best to cooperate

Block 6: Ambition (For noble goals)
Image result for Ambition
Ambition is a desire to do or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. It is what many people have but sometimes ambition can lead you to do the wrong things. You have to be careful with ambition and make sure you do what's right.

Block 8: Alertness
"Be observing constantly. Stay open-minded. Be eager to learn and improve."

Being alert is important because it means you're always aware of your surrounding. For example, it makes you open minded about the things you see and how you proceed them. A close minded person doesn't know the things going on around them therefore they seem ignorant. On the other hand a person who is alert notices can stay on top of things.

Block 9: Initiative

"Cultivate the ability to make decisions and think alone. Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it."

Initiative is the ability to assess and initiate things independently. Being afraid only means you won't even try to attempt to the things. You never know until you try and

Block 10: Intentness
"Set a realistic goal. Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptations and being determined and persistent."Image result for intentness

Setting realistic goals means its achievable. For instance, if you're failing all your classes you can't suddenly get all A's by the next week. On the other hand setting goals to go to tutoring and ask for makeups is very possible.

Block 11: Sincerity (keeps friends)

Image result for sincerity
Sincerity means the quality of being free from pretense, deceit, or hypocrisy. People don't like being friends with people who aren't sincere. If you're always lying and doing bad things people won't like to be around.  Imagine if you're friends with someone but they aren't being sincere to you, it would hurt your feelings . Don't do what you don't want to be done to you.

Block 12: Adaptability (to any situation)

Image result for adaptability

Adaptability is the quality of being able to adjust to new conditions. Change is always happening it's just the way you handle it and are able to adapt. For instance, losing your job it can be sudden but you have to find a new job. The work environment may be different but you'll just have to get used to it and do your best. And in school you have to

Block 13: Condition
"Mental-Moral-Physical. Rest, exercise and diet must be considered. Moderation must be practiced. Dissipation must be eliminated."
Image result for condition

Being successful also means staying in the best condition.

Block 14: Skill

"A knowledge of and the ability to properly and quickly execute the fundamentals. Be prepared and cover every little detail."

Image result for skill

A skill is the ability to carry out a task with determined results often within a given amount of time, energy, or both. Skills can often be divided into domain-general and domain-specific skills.

Block 15:  Team Spirit

"A genuine consideration for others. An eagerness to sacrifice personal interests of glory for the welfare of all."

Image result for team spirit

Team spirit is working with a team and putting effort into the team. Not being the reason why your team is being dragged down.Members should be respecting of each other in order to achieve teamwork. Team spirit means to want to work with others and to be willing collaborators and to be very optimistic when working with others.

Block 16: Honesty (in thought and action)

"Honesty is the best policy." (Ben Franklin)
Image result for honesty

Honesty is one of the most searched for character trait. To be honest means to tell the truth at all time. This does not mean to be mean to everyone and say all the things that come to mind. If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.

Block 17: Resourcefulness (proper judgment)
“Make the most out of what you have.” (Anonymous)

"If you have a dream, if you have something you've always wanted to do, look within yourself because that is where resourcefulness resides; and go for it. (Jennifer Witterick)

Image result for resourcefulness
Resourcefulness the ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties. Also the most effective way to solve things. A example is

Block 18: Poise

"Just being yourself. Being at ease in any situation."

Bring the best out of you, and you'll see that it will bring you a long way. I can apply this new block into my daily life by believing in myself every time I take a test, quiz, or presentation.  People with poise can handle pressure without showing it.A poised person exhibits composure and self-assuredness, which comes in handy and You're balanced, grounded, and ready for action

Block 19: Confidence

"Thorough preparation breeds confidence" Gerald Bell in
"The Carolina Way"
Image result for confidence

Confidence the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. You can't be confidence at something new automatically it takes practice to get the understanding of it and to be able to feel confident in what you're doing. If you are trying a new hobby for example tennis you won't feel confident doing it until you know your abilities and your weaknesses and strengths. Practicing grows your confidence and it makes you better.

Block 20: Reliability (creates respect)

Image result for reliability
Reliability the quality of being trustworthy or of performing consistently well.

Block 21: Fight (determined effort)Image result for Fight

Fight doesn't mean to physically fight it's just a expression. It means determined effort and all the effort you'll put into succeeding. For instance, if you start as a secretary in a job business you could make your way up from there, maybe even soon become the manager of that company. It just all depends on the effort you put into it.

Block 22: Competitive Greatness
" Be at your best when your best is needed. Enjoyment of a difficult challenge."

Competitive greatness means you'll be successful even when you lose or win. To have competitiveness doesn't just mean that you are determined in winning but it also means that don't overreact when you lose or when things don't go your way. For instance, if you lose a game you don't start cursing out the other team or try and fight them.

Block 23: Integrity (purity of intention)

Do the right thing instead of doing the wrong. To add on you make make you're decisions correct and don't ,make decisions personal, some decision may affect others. For example you are doing a group project you need to give your responsibility and effort on the project so your group will get a good score. But if you lack on your integrity it may affect your group. Be a CTR person.

Block 24: Faith (through prayer)
Believe and Achieve. Positive belief.
Image result for faith

Faith is very important because you need to trust and have confident in someone or something. For example,  you have a group project and you need to trust you team to get it done and help. Believing in something bigger can sometimes give you the confidence you need to do keep going.

Block 25: Patience (good things take time)

Patience the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. "Good things take time." is true because somethings just take longer to complete. For example, waiting for a video to load on youtube.

FINAL REFLECTION:
Write one final reflection, at least 25 sentences or 300 words, on the 25 blocks of the Pyramid of Success. Include this reflection at the end of your Pyramid of Success post. Include a picture or two.

A block that stood out to me was cooperation, cooperation is important because in a team you have to work together everybody has to cooperate, even by yourself you have to be cooperative which means to be able to do what someone tells you and for your work to be at a good level. Those are the 3 building block of success that stood out to me the most.
